History and heritage

  • 1276

    Morillon is mentioned for the first time in an official document concerning the Crêt de Visigny. The village already existed and was part of local life.

  • 1622

    Morillon becomes the barony of Saint-Christophe, also known as the “Prince’s fief”. Local lords and the Counts of Geneva manage and protect the village.

  • 1789

    The French Revolution puts an end to feudal privileges. The inhabitants become free owners of their land and live under new rules.

  • 1860

    Savoy is annexed to France. Morillon is then integrated into the French administrative system.

  • 1900

    The arrival of tourism transforms the village. The first ski and mountain leisure infrastructures make Morillon a welcoming resort-village for everyone.

  • 2025

    Morillon preserves its traditional Savoyard village charm. Between its typical chalets, agricultural activities, cheese production such as Reblochon or Tomme, forestry and tourism, the village offers a fine balance between tradition and modernity in a preserved natural setting.

Fête du pitin

Each autumn, Morillon celebrates the Fête du Pitin, the apple juice festival, an event centered on traditional fresh juice production, pressed on site. Locals and visitors gather around the press to taste the juice, discover different apple varieties and enjoy pressing workshops. The atmosphere is friendly and festive, with stalls selling local products, apple-based treats and music, making this festival a warm moment to celebrate the harvest and village know-how.

La Confrérie des 4 Couronnées

Founded several centuries ago, the Brotherhood of the Four Crowned Saints of Morillon honors the village’s patron saints and ancient traditions. Each year, on the Sunday before Christmas, it organizes its celebration with ceremonies, processions and convivial moments. Locals and visitors gather to discover local heritage, share songs, stories and village specialties in a warm atmosphere celebrating both faith and local culture.
